Certified for Flight: Scan Engineering Enters Aerospace Export Game

Taking Flight: Scan Engineering’s Move Towards AS9100 Certification for Aerospace Clients
As Scan Engineering continues to grow its aerospace machining division, our next mission is clear achieving AS9100 certification and expanding into international supply chains, starting with new client engagements in Canada. This certification isn’t just a badge. It’s a signal that we’re ready to meet the strict quality, traceability, and documentation standards that aerospace OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers demand.
What is AS9100?
AS9100 is the international quality management system standard for the aerospace, aviation, and defense industries. It builds on ISO 9001 but adds layers specific to:
Product safety
Risk-based thinking
Special process control
Traceability and documentation
Configuration and revision control
Why It Matters for Our Next Chapter
For over a decade, we’ve delivered precision machining support for small-run aerospace components especially aluminum fasteners, inserts, shims, brackets, and heat sink plates. Now we’re preparing to become a fully certified and approved vendor capable of:
Meeting AS9100 audit-level documentation standards
Engaging with aerospace clients beyond the UAE, particularly in Canada
Bidding for structured RFQs from OEMs and approved aerospace contractors
Entering supply chains where monogram-free, job-shop vendors are disqualified
How We’re Preparing for AS9100
We’re currently overhauling our:
Work order traceability systems
In-process inspection forms
Calibration tracking
Non-conformance logging and root cause analysis
Internal audit cycles
We’re also training our internal team in AS9100D clauses and conducting mock audits before final registration.
Entering the Canadian Aerospace Market
We’ve initiated discussions with aerospace component buyers in Ontario and Quebec, with early interest in:
CNC-milled aluminum brackets
Heat sink plate production
Precision mounting pins and couplings
AS9100 is not just a door opener it’s a baseline requirement for being considered. Certification will give us access to global procurement systems, approved vendor lists, and military-aerospace crossover jobs in the long run.
We’re not entering aerospace to compete with the big names. We’re doing it to serve a niche reliable, flexible machining support for critical parts in low-to-mid volumes.
With AS9100 underway, we’re getting ready to serve this niche better and farther.
